The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices (RQF) is intended for those who aim to uphold the standards and ensure internal assessment quality. This Level 4 award in IQA provides an understanding of the principles and practices to carry out effective internal quality assurance procedures.
This IQA course is a fundamental qualification for individuals aspiring to become internal quality assessors in the further and higher education sectors. It equips with skills and knowledge to monitor the assessment practices within an organisation and support assessors in maintaining compliance and consistency. This course also helps you to develop confidence in conducting a culture of continuous improvement in assessment delivery.
The Level 4 Award in the IQA of Assessment Processes and Practices is an industry standard course and was previously known as the V1 course. It is an Ofqual-regulated course and is delivered 100% online.
Course Units
To achieve this qualification, you must complete two units. The details of these units are as follows;
- Unit 1: Understanding the Principles and Practices of Internally Assuring the Quality of Assessment
- Understand the principles, context, planning, and techniques involved in monitoring, maintaining, and improving the internal quality assurance of assessment
- Understand how to manage information relevant to the internal quality assurance of assessment, and the associated legal and good practice requirements
- Unit 2: Internally Assure the Quality of Assessment
- Learn to plan, evaluate and internally maintain and improve the quality of assessment
- Learn to manage information and maintain good practice in the internal quality assurance of assessment

The completion time for this Level 4 Award in IQA varies from 2 weeks to up to 16 weeks, depending on the dedication the learner shows toward the course.

Practical Requirements
To successfully achieve the Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices (RQF), you must demonstrate your competence through practical application in a real work environment. This includes internally quality assuring the work of at least two assessors, each of whom must be assessing the work of at least two learners. You are required to plan, monitor, and evaluate assessment practices, observe assessment activities, and provide constructive feedback to assessors. You must be observed carrying out internal quality assurance by a qualified internal quality assurer or tutor to ensure your evidence meets the required standards.
You are required to submit key pieces of evidence as part of the practical requirement, such as sampling plans, IQA reports, standardisation records, assessor feedback, and communication logs. All activities must be based on live assessments, as simulation is not permitted.

The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices is assessed through a combination of written assignments and practical evidence, focusing on monitoring, evaluating, and improving the quality of assessment practices within the real work environment. Can you explain what V1 and D32/33 mean?
V1 was the old internal verifier qualification (now replaced by this Level 4 IQA Award). D32/D33 were the previous assessor awards (D32 for assessing, D33 for verifying), now updated to qualifications like the Level 3 CAVA. These older certificates are still valid, but this Level 4 IQA course is the current standard.
Is there an exam?
No, this competency-based qualification is assessed via practical tasks and written assignments.
