The Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills (RQF) is a UK OFQUAL accredited 100% online, competency-based qualification for learners with little or no counselling expertise who are interested in beginning the process of becoming an authorised counsellor. Learners who obtain this qualification will be prepared to apply various counselling skills and grasp and articulate the essential elements of an ethical framework and anti-discriminatory policies. I have over 15 years’ experience in teaching and training. During this time, I have undertaken teacher training, been a lecturer and course supervisor for ICM, and cohort leader and lecturer for HND (BTEC-Pearson). I have taught business management units/modules at various levels (and awarding bodies) including Certificate, Diploma, Advance Diploma, and Foundation degree levels. I enjoy learning through continuous professional development and have achieved my Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy. I have had a long career in teaching, assessing, and quality assurance (both internal and external). I started my career in retail, and over a period of eight years, became a supermarket store manager, self-employed contracts manager and an area manager overseeing sixteen CTN stores. I stepped into Education commencing as an assessor then internal verifier. Within two years I was a qualified post sixteen teacher focussing on IT, quickly becoming a Microsoft Certified Engineer. Combining the role of teacher/assessor and IT Manager, whilst in the post of a local government officer, I supported a range of sector areas through delivery of apprenticeships and private courses. Since 2007 I have also worked for awarding bodies holding a position as External Quality Assurer for fourteen years and also becoming a technical expert in coaching mentoring and management.

I am an experienced practitioner with over 40 years’ service in the Post-16 education sector and am an acknowledged specialist and consultant in the principles and practices of competency-based vocational education and work-based learning awards [VET/WBL]. Over the last 30 years, I have developed and applied skills in the assessment and quality assurance of VET/WBL awards and held senior roles in the auditing of these. In parallel, I am an accomplished Senior Lecturer in the field of professional development and Initial Teacher Training across the post-16 curricula and have substantive and up-to-date experience of internally and externally quality assuring these programmes too.

I am an enthusiastic educationist who is a fellow of the higher education academy and I have completed my Doctorate of Business Administration. I worked as an accountant and business consultant up until 2017, where I started exploring my capabilities in academia and teaching. From that point, I haven’t looked back, and have gone from strength to strength. I am engaged in lecturing, assessment, and quality assurance in the areas of business administration, accountancy, marketing, and teacher training, where I can impart my teaching skillset onto my students.

I am a PhD candidate (passed viva) at the University of Essex. My specialisation in PhD is Entrepreneurship. I am an active researcher with specific interest in Entrepreneurship, SME, Marketing and UK Higher Education (UKHE). I have over 14 years work experience in UKHE, which includes extensive experience of quality assurance in the sector. Furthermore, providing academic training to teaching professionals in the higher education sector is my passion.

I have worked in education for 34 years, in various guises. I managed a busy nursery for 12 years before branching out into Assessment and Quality Assurance, more than 20 years ago. My practice has developed alongside the ever-evolving training and apprenticeship sector, and I have worked in many different settings, including colleges, private training agencies and a foster care agency. I also work part time as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant for a local charity that supports higher level education for young people with Special Educational and/or behavioural needs and as a tutor for a bespoke programme for one-to-one support. I really enjoy supporting learners of varying abilities and experience to achieve their best and to become qualified in their chosen field.
