The Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment is considered to be an entry qualification for people looking to assess learners on accredited courses. Most training centres would expect that you have this assessor qualification at the very least before you start assessing in the FE and HE sectors. This is Regulated Qualifications Framework RQF qualification formerly known as A1 Assessor course and it was replaced by the current suite of qualifications, which are commonly referred to as TAQA (Training Assessment and Quality Assurance).You are not required to have any prior qualification or experience to start this level 3 course. This NVQ assessor course will assist you regardless of your subject expertise, whether its streets hospitality and catering or nursing. The course is accredited by UK OFQUAL, and is delivered 100% online.
This course will qualify you to become an assessor in construction, early years, health and safety, hospitality and retail sectors etc. This course is also suitable for fields where assessments are conducted through work-based evidence, direct observations, witness testimony, on-site observations, and professional discussions etc.

This unit helps in assessing learner’s performance. It covers the areas of assessment planning; judging both performance and knowledge and providing feedback and making decisions. The assessment skills to be demonstrated are through the assessment of natural performance, discussion, examination of work product, questioning, etc.
NVQ Assessors support and assess learners that are working towards their National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs). An NVQ Assessor will assess and train learners in order for them to gain the occupational standards needed to achieve their qualification.

I have over 15 years’ experience in teaching and training. I have had a long career in teaching, assessing, and quality assurance (both internal and external). I started my career in retail, and over a period of eight years, became a supermarket store manager, self-employed contracts manager and an area manager overseeing sixteen CTN stores. I stepped into Education commencing as an assessor then internal verifier. Within two years I was a qualified post sixteen teacher focussing on IT, quickly becoming a Microsoft Certified Engineer. Combining the role of teacher/assessor and IT Manager, whilst in the post of a local government officer, I supported a range of sector areas through delivery of apprenticeships and private courses. Since 2007 I have also worked for awarding bodies holding a position as External Quality Assurer for fourteen years and also becoming a technical expert in coaching mentoring and management.

I am an experienced practitioner with over 40 years’ service in the Post-16 education sector and am an acknowledged specialist and consultant in the principles and practices of competency-based vocational education and work-based learning awards [VET/WBL]. Over the last 30 years, I have developed and applied skills in the assessment and quality assurance of VET/WBL awards and held senior roles in the auditing of these. In parallel, I am an accomplished Senior Lecturer in the field of professional development and Initial Teacher Training across the post-16 curricula and have substantive and up-to-date experience of internally and externally quality assuring these programmes too.

I am an enthusiastic educationist who is a fellow of the higher education academy and I have completed my Doctorate of Business Administration. I worked as an accountant and business consultant up until 2017, where I started exploring my capabilities in academia and teaching. From that point, I haven’t looked back, and have gone from strength to strength. I have worked in education for 34 years, in various guises. I managed a busy nursery for 12 years before branching out into Assessment and Quality Assurance, more than 20 years ago. My practice has developed alongside the ever-evolving training and apprenticeship sector, and I have worked in many different settings, including colleges, private training agencies and a foster care agency. I also work part time as a Higher-Level Teaching Assistant for a local charity that supports higher level education for young people with Special Educational and/or behavioural needs and as a tutor for a bespoke programme for one-to-one support. I really enjoy supporting learners of varying abilities and experience to achieve their best and to become qualified in their chosen field.
